Hallo, Hi, Bonjour
¶
I am Matthias, a software engineer and architect based in Montréal, originally from Germany. I currently work at Opal on the open-source Opal solution, which helps patients access and manage their medical data.
I approach engineering with a systems mindset and a strong bias for action. I am comfortable wearing many hats and stay product-focused from idea to delivery.
My work focuses on building reliable systems and turning real-world problems into maintainable software and reusable solutions. I tend to be hands-on and systems-oriented, with a strong focus on automation, code quality, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
Open source is a big part of how I work. I regularly contribute upstream, share what I learn, and document solutions so others—and my future self—can reuse them.
On this site, I share practical technical write-ups: setup guides, debugging notes, migration workflows, and lessons learned from real projects.
Outside of tech: table tennis, squash, great coffee, and mastering sourdough bread.
